FBI formally attributes $6 billion Binance hack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group
The FBI has officially blamed North Korea for the theft of more than $6 billion from Binance, designating the malicious cyber activity as "TraderTraitor." The bureau said it is working with the US Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation to track the stolen assets, which are being converted primarily into ETH and funneled through DeFi and instant swap services. The FBI published hundreds of related ETH, BTC, and SOL addresses and called on THORChain node operators, RPC providers, and DeFi platforms to block transactions with them. Analysts noted that the Lazarus Group's cumulative stolen funds now stand at $11.87 billion, equivalent to 45% of North Korea's 2025 GDP, according to Bank of Korea data.
Binance restores Ethereum and BSC withdrawals, phases in 15 networks
Binance has resumed withdrawals for USDC, USDT, and ETH on the Ethereum network and USDC, USDT, and BNB on BNB Smart Chain, with plans to gradually restore services across 15 networks. The team said it will continue security checks before reopening more assets. Binance has also updated its proof-of-reserves address list to include newly generated wallets and revealed it has now covered $6 billion of the losses from the hack. Around 90% of affected assets have been replenished, with BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, RLUSD, and ZEC all restored to 100% reserve backing. The remaining roughly 10% consists of lower-liquidity tokens outside the top ten and may take longer to source.
Binance attacker dumps 130+ altcoins on EVM chains for $279 million
On-chain data shows the Binance attacker has liquidated more than 130 altcoins on EVM chains, converting them into 123,400 ETH (worth $277.26 million) and 1.69 million USDC, for a total of approximately $279 million. In a notable misstep, the hacker sold 908,793 PROM tokens worth about $5 million into a nearly empty Uniswap V2 pool, receiving just 0.0316 ETH (about $71) in return. The attacker has also transferred 120 million TRX (about $38.78 million) and moved roughly $38 million through the Relay cross-chain protocol in seven hours, despite Relay's claimed KYT system. Meanwhile, an Ethereum chain reorganization triggered an emergency pause on THORChain, inadvertently slowing the laundering of stolen funds through that bridge.
Binance pursues Malaysia licensing, seeking return after five-year ban
Binance is in talks with Malaysian regulators to secure a license to operate in the Southeast Asian country, according to a company spokesperson. The exchange has been engaging with the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia for the past ten months to explore the feasibility and structure of a licensed business model. If approved, Binance would formally re-enter a market it has been restricted from for more than five years. Malaysia's Securities Commission ordered Binance to cease operations in the country in July 2021 for running an unlicensed digital asset exchange. The regulator removed Binance from its investor alert list in 2024 but re-listed it earlier this month without explanation.

Total stablecoin supply has fallen by $3.1 billion since October 28, dropping to $298.5 billion, its lowest level since August, according to Sumcap data. The figure is down $5.2 billion from January 1, 2026.
